New Look

I’ve changed the look of theglaze.com.

I’ve been working on web-design again… and it’s pretty fun. I’d forgotten how much I actually liked it. Would I prefer to do this full-time?

Ugh… creative mess!

This video is awesome. It’s also sadly true. Thankfully, things don’t always get this bad… but I hate it when you have to keep adding and adding and adding garbage to perfectly understandable and good designs.

End rant.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

I went to Prince Caspian with my friends on Friday. It was an excellent showing for opening night, we had to sit at the very top of one of the largest theatres in town, and it was a full house.

I must say that I can’t recall the book, so the movie may stray from the original and I wouldn’t notice. I did think that it was a good movie though. Honestly, I was surprised that it was only rated PG… for a children’s movie it was very violent, and I think it would have scared young children. Since I’m not a small child, I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the cinematography used in some of the fight scenes: think Gladiator without all the blood.

The one thing the I did distinctly remember from the book was how Lucy saw Aslan, and no one would believe her. I think I related to her, in the true and honest belief that I see God at work in my life, and in the world around me, and yet there are people who will not even believe in His existence.

The one thing about this movie that is amusing is the number of movies that have come out recently with the similar themes and creatures. It was like a mix of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I enjoyed the similarities to Lord of the Rings especially, since C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were such close friends, and it brings the parallels of their stories to life, while keeping their distinctions intact.

In short: it was a great opening movie to the summer blockbuster season, and parents, go with your kids. Have fun.

Weekend Casino Wake-up Call

On Saturdays, most people enjoy sleeping in. Usually that means past 8 a.m. This morning, at around 8, helicopter propellers began to pound so loudly above my roof that my bed was vibrating. At first I dismissed it as a passing police or news helicopter. I rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. The chopper faded away, only to come back overhead a few minutes later, repeatedly, until I gave in and got up out of bed to see what all the fuss was.

Pulling open my window shades, I see this:

Apparently it was time to move in some very large crates, whether they are air-conditioners or safes, into the new casino that is behind where I live. The question is, why did they do it at 8 a.m. on a Saturday?

Yes, it gathered a lot of attention. I saw a lot of people standing outside, even on the side of the road pulled off and watching this process. The funny thing is, the loyal customers of this casino who were gambling and drinking at it last night might be the ones who would be the most excited about the new casino building coming together, but they might not impressed when their Saturday morning hang-over was worsened by thundering chopper blades.

Even with the inconvenient timing, it was exciting to see a Chinook in town. Usually we only see police or news choppers, and this past year one of the news choppers crashed, so we don’t see as many of them either. I believe there is only one news helicopter in the city right now, and only a couple police helicopters.
